Day 2 & 3

So last night I didn't get to post. Basically day 2 was a really long day but I am settling in to being there day after day. After school I got to make two math artifacts to hang on the wall (:

Today, day 3, was a great day! I feel like I am finding my place and voice in the classroom. In the morning the ELL students had testing, which took half of our students. I planed for taking over word study next week. Fountas &Pinnell will be my best friends this weekend... I already had questions on it and asked my methods teacher! My supervisor came in at the end of math and he will be coming in next week, eekkk. I do not know why I am so nervous to start teaching my munchkins.. I've been around them so much and know them. But after today I really feel like I have found my place and voice more within the classroom, so I think that tomorrow will just be a better day.

This morning when I looked at the weather, it said it was going to be in the 30s, so I thought it would be ok to not bring my boots for recess duty.  BOY, OH, BOY was I wrong!! My feet froze! There was also talk about friday having bad weather.. hrmm.. snow day?!

Well I had Children's Literature this evening, and we have to do an interactive read aloud for next week. I plan on doing The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, using a trash can the students bring up the animal when it is first swallowed and it goes into the trash can. I will show photos once it is made this weekend!

Well I really should go to bed. I have my Social Studies mini lesson due in my methods class after tomorrow.

Oh, this was something that I was told by a previous teacher I volunteered with, which made me so happy and more confident, I was told that "She had never seen someone more prepared for student teaching. I am a natural." This gave me the best boost to finish off 'hump' day on my first week of student teaching. (:

EEEKKKK....TOMORROW

As I prepare for tomorrow I grow more and more nervous, excited, scared, happy.. just a big ball of emotions. I have packed my lunch (chicken, pita, carrots, pretzels and hummus), picked out my outfit, got my mug & k-cups ready for my cafe mocha, and packed my bag. Now I just have to get a goodnights sleep, as long as I can fall asleep. Tomorrow is day 1 of 59 of student teaching, ready or not here I come.

Workshop Week

So today was only day two of the workshop week and i am exhausted! These next 12 weeks of teaching are really going to be tiring. Today we had more resume work and a talk about communication with parents, teachers, and administrators. We also had a library workshop.

The alumni said yesterday that this week is a roller coaster of emotions and that is true. You can go back a forth of being confident to being nervous in a millisecond! To being super pumped and energized to extremely tired and feeling like death. But I just keep going, and breathing because it will be worth it in the end; not for me but for the students.

Taylor Mali on "What Teachers Make"

Today was the first day of the semester, I do not start student teaching till next week but we have a week of workshops. It was a very long first day back. We learned a lot from alumni of the program at my school. This was helpful but hard to relate to since I will be the first class to go through the Elementary Education program. Overall it was helpful and informative.

I then had my Methods of Reading and Math course. My professor is one of my favorites and I am very excited to have her again. She shared this youtube video. It does have some inappropriate language and a gesture at the end but the overall meaning is what counts.

"I make a difference. What about you?"

Student Teaching

So this blog was created for my technology class, but I am now going to use it as my blog for student teaching. My goal is to write a post every night about my day. Next monday I will embark on the journey that is Student Teaching.

Final Project Reflection

Overall, I am happy with how my project has come out. I have 3 stand alone audio clips, I created them in youtube so I could easily post them on the blog. I had played around with embedded players, but my files were .m4p not .mp3 so it could not work.

The flag video I am very happy about, I loved using my students and getting to know them better when they were expressing where they were born and where their families are from. I am upset that when exporting it to youtube it messed up the timing. But I will continue to tinker with the process of importing it to see if I can get the timing right.

The gingerbread video, was very fun to film with Jasmine. She was very excited to do the project and understood the concept of the video and wanted to show new students the different aspects of the school. I had a lot issues with imovie and this project.

Enjoyed this project, even with all the extra time and effort it took to go between two different schools.
